About / The person behind the work
See deeply.
Create carefully.
I’m Lawrence Cox, a systems thinker and the founder of MindShapes. Most of my work starts the same way: I notice something.
A recurring behavior. A contradiction. A result that does not quite match the intention behind it. I stay with the observation long enough to examine the relationships and constraints around it.
Systems thinking is the organizing discipline of that work. It connects my interest in human experience with the practical questions of how ideas, organizations, and products take shape.
Concept. Theory. Design.
An observation becomes a concept. The concept develops into an explanation that can be examined. Design gives the thinking a form that can meet experience.
Some of those forms are publications and conversations. Others are frameworks, operational systems, or developing software instruments. I am interested in what makes an idea understandable—and what makes it useful.
A working orientation
Understand the condition.
Then consider the move.
Observe
Separate what is present from what has been assumed.
Relate
Examine the people, structures, and constraints around it.
Express
Develop something usable, then learn from what it reveals.
A conversation can be a beginning
Thought should meet experience.
